Storage & Backup ensures the availability, integrity, and recoverability of organisational data. The area covers the management of storage systems (SAN & NAS), backup solutions, and disaster recovery processes. It addresses challenges such as data growth, end-of-life hardware, and the need for rapid restoration in the event of data loss. The area supports compliance with data retention policies and aligns with business continuity objectives.
Monitoring & Automation is focused on the continuous observation and optimisation of IT infrastructure and applications. The area leverages tools such as Logic Monitor to provide real-time visibility into system health, performance, and security. Automation is used to streamline routine tasks, reduce human error, and enable rapid response to incidents. The area supports proactive maintenance, capacity planning, and the alignment of IT operations with business objectives. This area also includes Application Performance Monitoring (APM) base setup and management with Dynatrace.

Storage & Backup

• Advanced expertise in SAN/NAS architectures, including HPE, EMC, NetApp, VMware vSAN, and Cisco HyperFlex Distributed Filesystem.

• Strong knowledge of storage fabric management (Cisco, Brocade), including provisioning, multipathing, zoning, and masking.

• Proven experience in capacity planning, performance optimisation, and lifecycle management of enterprise storage platforms.

• Deep understanding of replication technologies, snapshot policies, and regular recovery testing.

• Hands‑on experience with Rubrik backup solutions, including application‑consistent backups and disaster recovery simulations.

• Proficiency in data migration, decommissioning processes, and integrity validation.

• Strong focus on security, access control, and compliance across storage and backup environments.

• Ability to optimise storage costs and forecast capacity needs.

• Experience collaborating with server, database, and application teams to ensure throughput, performance, and restore readiness.

• Ability to mentor and support L2 analysts in storage and backup operations.

Monitoring & Automation

• Expertise in enterprise monitoring platforms such as LogicMonitor and Dynatrace, including coverage modelling and KPI dashboard development (Infrastructure Monitoring and APM).

• Strong skills in alert threshold tuning, event enrichment, correlation, and noise reduction.

• Proficiency in automation scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python) to streamline IT operations and support incident response.

• Experience managing monitoring pipelines, platform upgrades, and rollback procedures.

• Knowledge of integrating monitoring systems with ITSM, SIEM, and escalation workflows.

• Strong capacity planning, SLO reporting, and trend analysis capabilities.

• Experience with synthetic monitoring, DR validation, and observability standards for new services and locations.

• Ability to maintain and enhance knowledge bases, alert playbooks, and tuning guidelines.

• Mentoring capability to support L2 analysts in monitoring and automation disciplines.

Storage & Backup Management

• Lead deployment, optimisation, and lifecycle management of SAN/NAS storage and backup platforms.

• Ensure compliance with data retention and regulatory requirements.

• Maintain and improve backup and disaster recovery processes.

• Oversee incident response, troubleshooting, and documentation.

• Conduct regular reviews of storage utilisation, backup success, and recovery readiness.

• Manage vendor relationships and coordinate with third‑party support.

• Support audits, remediation, and governance activities.

• Guide L2 analysts and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.

• Ensure secure decommissioning of end‑of‑life hardware.

• Drive continuous improvement and stay current with emerging technologies.

Monitoring & Automation

• Lead deployment, configuration, and optimisation of monitoring tools (e.g., LogicMonitor, Dynatrace APM).

• Develop automation scripts and workflows to streamline operations and reduce manual effort.

• Ensure real‑time visibility into system health, performance, and security.

• Integrate monitoring and automation with incident and reporting systems.

• Oversee alerting, reporting, and escalation processes.

• Conduct regular reviews of monitoring data and automation effectiveness.

• Support audits, governance, and SLA compliance.

• Mentor L2 analysts and collaborate with infrastructure, application, and security teams.

• Drive adoption of automation and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Maintain documentation and manage vendor relationships.

Overall Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across storage, backup, monitoring, and automation domains.

• Ensure alignment with business continuity, SLA, and compliance requirements.

• Lead incident response, optimisation initiatives, and cross‑team collaboration.
