In Bulgaria we are looking for a Senior Engineer to join an innovative R&D initiative focused on object detection using Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) data.

Design, develop, and deliver a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) system for validating the use of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and Automatic Identification System (AIS) data for the detection of intrusions. The system is intended to provide early warnings of threats to critical infrastructure, enabling timely intervention.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Working time required to have 1-2h overlap with US PST time zone

This is you

• Machine Learning R&D: Conduct literature analysis; adapt, train, and integrate machine learning models (e.g., Computer Vision, Vision Transformers, DINO v2/v3, or other model architectures) to analyze DAS data for object detection using object noises.

  • Validate the feasibility of using machine learning techniques on DAS data for object detection.

  • Review business requirements, evaluate technical feasibility, define solution architectures, and provide ML leadership throughout the design and development lifecycle.

• Machine Learning Training: Training and fine-tuning deep learning models for image classification, feature extraction, and object detection.

• Machine Learning Frameworks: Expert-level proficiency in PyTorch and experience with specialized vision transformers such as DINO (v2/v3) and other state-of-the-art deep learning vision models.

• MLOps Tools: Extensive experience with MLFlow for experiment management, artifact tracking, and metric monitoring, including Precision, Recall, ROC curves, and model performance evaluation. Experience with Vertex AI pipelines is highly desirable.

• Cloud Infrastructure (GCP): Hands-on experience with Vertex AI model deployments, Cloud Run, and high-performance ML model serving in production environments.

• Cloud Based Development: Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Workstations and Vertex AI Workbench Notebooks, or similar cloud-native development environments and workflows.

• Data Processing: Strong skills in PostgreSQL/PostGIS and H3 for spatial data association and geospatial analytics.

• Signal Processing: Experience with signal processing and time-series data analysis. Working knowledge of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), seismic data processing, or similar sensor-based systems is preferred.

• Software Engineering: Proficiency in Python (version 3.11/3.12+) using modern package management and development tooling such as uv.

• Leadership & Architecture: Demonstrated ML leadership experience beyond LLMs and AI agents, with the ability to analyze business problems, define technical approaches, design ML solutions, review architectures, and guide implementation decisions across the project lifecycle.
