As a Software Architect (f/m/x) at Avenga, you will design and further develop complex IT architectures for a major financial services customer in Germany.

You will work in a heterogeneous banking IT landscape, taking ownership of target architecture, technical concepts, data and interface architecture, and the modernization of enterprise systems. Your focus will be on translating business requirements into secure, scalable and sustainable technology solutions.

The role combines strategic architecture work with strong technical involvement. You will collaborate closely with development teams and business stakeholders, while also contributing to code reviews, migration initiatives, DevOps and software quality.

The role requires extensive experience in banking IT architecture, strong Java expertise, excellent German communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a complex and regulated environment.

This is you

You are an experienced Software Architect with a strong background in banking and enterprise software development. You can move comfortably between business requirements, architecture decisions and technical implementation details.

You bring:

• 8+ years of experience in IT architecture development within banking or financial services, ideally across heterogeneous IT landscapes

• Strong hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST APIs and modern Java frameworks

• Strong experience in software architecture, data and interface architecture, and object-oriented data modelling

• Strong understanding of distributed systems, enterprise application development and database integration, ideally with PostgreSQL

• Proven experience designing target architectures, IT concepts, architecture documentation and technical solutions

• Experience with application modernization, migration projects and complex technology transformation

• Strong knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps, test automation, software quality and secure software development

• Experience with private cloud environments, cloud migration strategies, security, compliance and governance

• Practical experience with Large Language Models and evaluating AI-based tools or plugins for software development

• Strong knowledge of Clean Code, design patterns and code review practices

• Good understanding of at least one banking domain, such as credit processes, accounting, reporting, funding or collateral management

• German C2 and English C1, both written and spoken

This is your role

In this role, you will take ownership of the technical architecture and help shape the target technology landscape of the banking environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and further developing IT architectures for operational and analytical systems

• Defining target architectures and translating business requirements into technical solutions

• Taking responsibility for the technical architecture and evolution of assigned systems

• Analysing the impact of business requirements and portfolio changes on the existing IT architecture

• Preparing architecture concepts, technical documentation and impact analyses for key technology decisions

• Designing and reviewing data and interface architectures

• Supporting programme, application and database modelling activities

• Contributing to migration and modernization initiatives across the banking IT landscape

• Conducting code reviews and ensuring high standards of code quality, security and performance

• Further developing CI/CD, test automation and DevOps practices

• Working closely with development teams and business stakeholders to ensure architectural alignment

• Structuring complex technical challenges and driving sustainable architecture decisions
