We are looking for a Principal Java Engineer to join the team of our client – a global leader in digital gaming solutions for lotteries. The product empowers organizations to engage new players, expand their brands, and drive sustainable growth.

As a Principal Engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of scalable and secure backend systems. You’ll work across the full software development lifecycle — from technical planning and implementation to deployment and support. The role combines strong engineering ownership with collaboration and mentorship within a high-performing team.

This is you

• 8+ years of hands-on experience with Java, including Java 17+, and at least one modern Java framework (preferably Spring 4+)
• Solid understanding of multi-threading, concurrency, and distributed systems
• Deep experience in RDBMS (PostgreSQL or similar): schema design, optimization, and migration with large-scale data
• Strong expertise in designing and implementing REST APIs within microservice architecture
• Experience deploying and maintaining production systems 
• Familiarity with OAuth for secure authentication and authorization
• Upper-intermediate level of English or higher
  

Nice-to-have skills:

• Experience with Kubernetes
•  Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, and writing unit/integration tests (e.g., JUnit, Spock)
• Exposure to event-driven architectures and message-driven systems

• Design and build scalable, maintainable, and secure backend solutions
• Take ownership of technical decisions and drive best practices within the team
• Write clean, testable code and lead by example in code reviews and design discussions
• Optimize database design and data handling for performance and reliability
• Contribute to the deployment, monitoring, and support of services in production
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality features
• Mentor less experienced engineers and help elevate team capabilities
