We are looking for a Senior Java Engineer to join a cross-functional engineering team working on financial transaction processing within the fintech domain. Our client is a leading European digital banking and investment platform. This role involves backend system development with a strong focus on reliability, data integrity, and fault tolerance in a cloud-native environment.

This is the team

You will join a payments and transaction processing team responsible for integrating bank-hosted transaction accounts with the platform. The team ensures seamless processing and routing of all incoming and outgoing payments while maintaining full compliance and financial accuracy. It consists of experienced senior engineers collaborating closely in an agile setup.

This is you

• 7+ years of professional experience in software development, ideally in financial or transaction-critical systems
• Expert-level knowledge of Java and modern frameworks like Spring Boot
• Experience with MySQL, RDBMS schema design, and data migration
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and resilient architecture design
• Strong hands-on experience with Kafka or other event-driven architectures
• Production experience with AWS services (S3, RDS, Lambda, Airflow, etc.) and Kubernetes
• Comfortable working with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab, Harness), and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Datadog
• Previous involvement in on-call rotations, incident handling, and postmortem analysis
• Familiarity with testing frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, TestContainers
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in English-speaking teams

Nice-to-have skills

• Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB)
• Familiarity with reactive programming (e.g., Project Reactor, WebFlux)
• Understanding of frontend stacks or collaboration with UI-focused teams

This is your role

• Design, build, and maintain backend services that handle payment workflows and accounting logic
• Ensure the reliability, security, and accuracy of financial transaction systems
• Collaborate with Product, Platform, and Frontend teams to deliver high-quality features
• Contribute to the resiliency and scalability of the overall platform architecture
• Participate in code reviews, incident response, and continuous improvement efforts
• Maintain and evolve existing microservices while driving new feature development
• Help shape engineering standards and improve team-wide development practices
